Since March 2008, there has been a national target that 100% of patients asking to be seen in a GUM Clinic should be seen within 48 hours of their request (not including weekends). The operational target for monitoring purposes is 98%. We are monitored against this target on a monthly basis. In 2007 we were achieving an average of 80 - 85 per cent each month. Since changing our we run our service our scores are as follows:

Year 2007-2008 overall

Year 2008-2009 overall

We see approximately 18,000 users per year from a wide range of clients. Last year we saw 364 patients aged 16 or under.
We have a total budget of £2.5 million, which includes the cost of Sexual Health and HIV drugs and we have kept within this at the end of the last financial year. We are currently under budget for this financial year. We are currently implementing a series of efficiency saving practices to make our services more cost effective without cutting services.
HIV testing of pregnant women
An HIV test is offered to all women at their pregnancy booking appointment as part of their routine health screen along with other blood tests done at this time.
The national target is for 90% of women to be tested so that appropriate care can be offered, which will reduce the risk of transmission from mother to baby to less than 1%.
In 2008:
97% of women were tested for HIV, which is a steady increase in the last 2 years and the 90% target has been achieved since 2005.
Because of the early diagnosis of HIV and the treatment plans that have been implemented, there have been zero cases of vertical transmission at West Middlesex Hospital.
Standards
Every year we monitor our performance against specific clinical standards as follows:
In addition we carry out other audits on a less regular basis such as:
