Respiratory Medicine

 

The department of respiratory medicine aims to offer the highest quality of care for patients with respiratory disease and contribute towards the improvement of respiratory healthcare through the service it provides, as well as through education and training. Diagnosis seen include COPD, asthma, lung cancer, tuberculosis, bronchiectasis, sarcoidosis and other interstitial diseases.

  • Obstructive sleep apnoea

  • Sleep service

  • Pulmonary function laboratory

  • Allergy skin testing for common air allergen

  • Nebuliser trials

  • Fibre-optic bronchoscopy

 

There is an urgent clinic for suspected lung cancer and TB patients, who are seen as quickly as possible. Patients seen by a consultant or senior doctor and after initial assessment a CT scan may be requested. Non-urgent cases are seen and prioritised as per referrals and chest x-rays.

 

All new patients should have a GP requested chest x-ray before referral, so that they can be prioritised and seen accordingly.
