There is a comprehensive laboratory service to West Middlesex University Hospital and Hounslow Primary Care Trust GPs, covering biochemistry, haematology and blood transfusion, histopathology and cytology, immunology and microbiology, including serology, virology, and infection control.

Approximately one million samples are tested each year

Around 7 in 10 patients who attend the hospital or their GP will have pathology tests done to assist in making a diagnosis or monitoring treatment

The laboratory service is provided by Quest Diagnostics

The laboratory service is led by the Consultant Pathologists, and they provide clinical advice on investigation and management of patients

The Trust holds a licence from the Human Tissue Authority for the activities conducted by the Pathology Department under the Human Tissue Act, 2004.

Consultant Haematologists provide a comprehensive in-patient, day unit and out-patient clinic services. For further information refer to the section on Clinical Haematology

The laboratory, including the area for reception of specimens, is on the First Floor of the East Wing.

The Haematology Day Unit is situated in the basement of the Marjory Warren Block.

Haematology in-patients are admitted to Richmond Ward in the main building.

Haematology Clinics are held in the Day Unit and OPD2 in the main building.

The Lipid Clinic is held in OPD2 in the main building.
