The Maternity Service has improved the screening for Down’s Syndrome and all women are now offered the Combined Test. This test consists of nuchal translucency measurement which is carried out during the first dating scan, and a blood test taken the same day.
As the scan and blood test can only be carried out before the 14th week of pregnancy it is important to book early. Women are welcome to contact the Maternity Service directly without seeing their GP first if there is any delay.
Further written information about screening will be sent prior to the booking appointment when the midwife will answer any questions.
For further information contact Norma Leese, Antenatal Screening Co-ordinator, on 020 8321 5119.
