The Community Dermatology Service is designed to provide treatment faster and closer to patients’ homes. In most cases this means you will no longer need to travel to hospital, and will be assessed and treated at the same appointment.
Depending on your condition, you will see either a Consultant Dermatologist, a Specialist Dermatology Nurse, or a specially trained GP in one of three community locations:
Heart of Hounslow Centre for Health
92 Bath Road, Hounslow TW3 3EL
Feltham Centre for Health
3rd Floor, The Centre, The High Street, Feltham, TW13 4GU
Brentford Health Centre
Boston Manor Road, Brentford TW8 8DS
If you have any queries about your appointment, your GP will be happy to discuss these with you.
If you are unable to attend your appointment, please call: 020 8321 5610 to re-arrange.
Why can’t I go to my local hospital for treatment?
The Community Dermatology Service has been designed to bring services closer to patients’ homes. This will also help reduce waiting times. You will still be seen by a specialist, just like you would in hospital, and in most cases you will be assessed and treated at the same appointment.
Who will be seen in the community service?
Adults and children of all ages whose skin conditions can be safely treated in the community, e.g. skin rashes, lesions, eczema, psoriasis, acne etc.
Can I choose the clinic location for my appointment?
Your family doctor (GP) will discuss the options available. Where possible you will be able to book an appointment at the location, date and time that is most convenient to you.
Why can’t I be seen by a Consultant Dermatologist?
Depending on your condition, you will see either a Consultant Dermatologist, a Specialist Dermatology Nurse, or a specially trained GP.
What if I need more specialised diagnosis or treatment?
If your condition is more severe then you will be referred to hospital for diagnosis and treatment.
More about the service
The Community Dermatology Service has been running since February 2011. It's a new way of delivering the dermatology service in the community, which was mostly hospital-based before.
The service has been designed and agreed by local GPs (family doctors) working with NHS Hounslow, following a public consultation. West Middlesex University Hospital was selected to run the service after a competitive tender.
