National guidelines have been set out regarding which patients should be referred under the Two Week Waiting Time Standard and not through the urgent or routine route. Please refer to these guidelines before referring your patients.
If you feel that your patient fits the guidelines, please fax the details on the referral form. This will speed up the appointment for your patient and ensure that the patient is offered an appointment within two weeks of the hospital receipt of referral.
We acknowledge that some GP surgeries have self generating proformas from their IT systems which will be accepted as long as they clearly state: ‘Suspected Cancer Referral'.
Please also include the following information so that we can deal with your referral as expediently as possible:
-
Full GP and practice details
-
NHS Number
-
Complete patient demographics
-
Contact numbers for the patient
-
All relevant clinical information
Where to fax suspected cancer referrals
Please use the following contacts to ensure that we deal with all referrals as efficiently as possible
Central Referral Point:
Fax: 020 8321 5157
Tel: 020 8321 6776
If referrals are sent to any other fax line there may be a delay in your patients being seen.
If you would like patient’s appointment details sent directly back to you via fax, we will be more that happy to do so. Please specify this in your referral. (The fax-back service is only offered Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.)
All suspected cancer referrals must be received within 24 hours of decision to refer otherwise we cannot accommodate patients being seen with the two-week timeframe.
In addition, we cannot guarantee that your patient will receive an appointment within two weeks of the date of decision to refer if you do not use these forms, either for the referral itself or as a fax cover sheet.
