Accident & Emergency (A&E)

A&E ambulance

The A&E Department at West Middlesex provides high quality care to over 100,000 patients a year. Of these, almost a third are children. The department is open 24-hours a day, 365 days of the year.

A&E is for seriously ill patients requiring immediate attention. If you are less seriously ill, but still require urgent treatment you will be seen in the Urgent Care Centre located at the front of the A&E department. For more information see: www.hrch.nhs.uk/our-services/clinics-health-centres/hounslow-ucc/

We work closely with other departments in the hospital including our state-of-the-art clinical imaging department, to ensure that patients are diagnosed and treated promptly.

We continually strive to keep waiting times to a minimum. This means that we aim to assess, investigate, diagnose, treat and admit or discharge patients from our department within 4 hours of checking in to our reception area.

Facilities

The modern purpose-built department houses separate majors and paediatric areas as well as a resuscitation room, and observation ward.

Location

West Middlesex’s A&E Department is situated to the left (North) side of the main hospital and has its own separate entrance which is clearly signposted.

Referrals

Patients may be referred to the service by a GP on the above numbers, via the London Ambulance Service, or by self-presenting at A&E.

In the event of an emergency, please dial 999 immediately.

Please remember that A&E is here for the treatment of those that are seriously ill. Before attending A&E, consider whether there is a more suitable alternative where you may receive treatment more quickly.

Around thirty per cent of A&E attendances could be treated more appropriately elsewhere and we would encourage local residents to “Choose Well” and not to attend A&E unless it is an absolute emergency.

There are well established services in the local area that can help with a variety of ailments such as:
