West Middlesex University Hospital
About Us
.

Your appointment

Your family doctor / GP (General Practitioner) has referred you to a consultant who is in charge of a team of doctors. The consultant has overall responsibility for your care, however, when you attend your appointments you may be seen by one of the clinical team or a specialist nurse.

We will try to see you as close to your appointment time as possible but please recognise that there may be unavoidable delays. You may require an x-ray or other tests, so please allow additional time for your appointment.

West Middlesex University Hospital is a teaching hospital and we appreciate help from patients to enable us to train future doctors, nurses and other clinical staff. You may be asked if one of our students can observe/participate in your care. If you are not happy about this please inform one of the clinic staff.

Letting us know if you are unable to make your appointment

If for any reason you are unable to make your appointment, please let us know so that we can give your slot to another patient. If you refuse two reasonable appointment offers, fail to attend any appointment, or try to re-book more than once, you will be discharged back to your GP to be re-referred when you are available to attend all your appointments. Exceptions will apply where clinically appropriate, including safeguarding measures for Paediatric patients. Please refer to our Patient Access, Booking and Choice Policy on our website for further guidance (west-middlesex-hospital.nhs.uk).

Getting here

There are good transport links to the hospital by bus, train and road. The main entrance to the hospital is directly off Twickenham Road (TW7 6AF), close to the junction with Park Road. Click here for more information.

There is a charge for everyone using the hospital car parks, so you will need to bring change for the ticket machine. You may only park in designated disabled parking bays if you have a valid disabled permit. Please make sure that you do not park in any of the restricted areas or spaces reserved for staff.

Patient transport

If your GP or hospital doctor has booked hospital transport for you and you have any queries please contact Patient Transport on 020 8321 5704 / 6214.

Helping you to communicate

If you require help to communicate, e.g. interpreting or sign language, during your clinic appointment, we can arrange this in advance. The hospital will automatically book this for your first appointment if your GP has advised us of your needs. Please contact us in advance of your appointment if you are unsure whether we are aware of your needs. If assistance is required for subsequent visits, please advise the outpatient staff in advance.

What to bring with you

Please remember to bring your appointment letter, any medication that you are currently taking and anything else detailed in your appointment letter. You may also find it useful to write a list of any questions you would like to ask, in case you forget during your appointment.

The NHS provides free healthcare for patients who live in the United Kingdom. If you do not normally live here you are not automatically entitled to use the NHS free of charge.  We have to ask you, by law, to confirm that you live here and for how long. Please help us by bringing with you evidence of residence, for example a council tax/electricity/gas bill.  We might also need evidence that you have right of residence e.g. birth certificate, passport or entry clearance documents if relevant. If you don’t bring these documents it may delay your treatment.

When you arrive

If you are a wheelchair user, please bring it with you. A limited number of wheelchairs are available at the main reception, which require a £1 coin deposit.

Please do not hesitate to ask a member of staff for help if you have any difficulties accessing the outpatients department.

The receptionist will ask you to confirm your personal details including, name, address, date of birth, General Practitioner (GP), place of birth and ethnic origin. In the future we will be texting reminders of appointments, so please let the receptionist know your mobile phone number.

The information we record about you is used to ensure that health care professionals have accurate information about you, so that you receive the best care and treatment possible; and to help us plan our services around the needs of our patients.
