Visitor's charter

Visits by friends and relatives to patients in hospital make a real difference to their recovery.  This Visitors Charter aims to make sure that patients and visitors get the best out of visits while respecting the privacy and needs of all patients and allowing doctors, nurses and other staff to do their job without disruption. The guide below describes what we expect from you and what you can expect from Trust staff.

Our commitment to you How you can help us
Visiting hours

Visiting hours vary on different wards. Information is available from ward staff and we will be flexible to your needs wherever possible

Patients need rest, so please consider their needs and restrict visits to no more than two people at any time. Some wards have seating at reception areas where you can  wait

CourtesyWe will be polite and courteousPlease show the same respect  for staff
Interruptions to visitsWe will keep to a minimum times when we need you to leave the ward while we deliver care to your friend or relativePlease respect this and wait until you are informed that you can return
NoiseWe try to create a calm and restful environment to help all of our patients to recover

Please think of other patients and keep noise levels to a minimum. Children should be supervised and not allowed to run around or climb onto beds. Please speak with a nurse if you plan to bring in young children

Controlling infection We have a strict approach to hygiene to prevent cross infection between patients. Please do not visit if you are unwell and ensure that you comply with infection control instructions from staff. You should wash your hands on entering and leaving the ward. Hand gel is available for use. Please refrain from sitting on patients’ beds
Meal times

We try to ensure that meal times are at approximately the same time every day so that you can plan visits around them.

Please do not visit at meal times so that patients can eat in a quiet atmosphere with minimal interruption. However, if you wish or are able to assist your relative or friend at meal times please ask the ward staff

Keeping you informed We will inform family members and carers about anything which the patient feels you need to knowPlease be aware we only give out information with patient permission. If you feel you have not been given enough information, please discuss this with staff.
