We are proud to confirm that mixed sex accommodation has been eliminated in our hospital.
Patients who are admitted to this hospital will only share the room where they sleep, with members of the same sex. Same sex toilets and bathrooms will be close to their bed area.
Sharing with members of the opposite sex will only happen by exception, based on clinical need (for example where patients need specialist equipment or care). In our hospital, these areas include the Intensive Care Unit, High Dependency Unit including Coronary Care and for initial stroke care on Kew Ward when patients are transferred back from the hyper acute unit. At all times, staff will ensure that the privacy and dignity of patients will be upheld.
We record the number of patients who are cared for in same sex accommodation every month and report this to the Department of Health.
Since 1 April 2011 to date (April 2012) we have had no instances of single sex accommodation breaches.
