Infection Control Nurse, Janice Scott (front centre) has won the Cepheid Infection Control Nurse (ICN) Award for 2010. Janice attended the national awards presentation at the Haymarket Hotel in London, along with the seven other regional finalists.

The Cepheid ICN Award 2010 is a new prize which rewards excellence and innovation in infection and control. It is open to all ICNs in England, Wales and Scotland.

Janice's success is proven by the reduction of both MRSA bacteraemia and Clostridium difficile cases experienced at the hospital bringing them well below the national targets.  The judges’ first comments on Janice were that her ‘can do’ attitude really came across in the nomination

“Janice is an excellent role model for all of us. She is incredibly enthusiastic about her work and is always coming up with new ideas, which she follows through to improve the service for patients,” says Yvonne Franks, Director of Nursing and Midwifery for the Trust (far left).

Such is Janice’s passion for her role in infection control nursing; she has even taken the time to write into the producers of Holby City to give them advice on how to portray infection control practices such as the use of Aseptic Non Touch Techniques and the use of hand gel on the show.  All of her recommendations have since appeared on screen!
